Ambassador Cui Tiankai Meets with Secretary General Lius Almagro of OAS

On July 14th 2015, Ambassador Cui Tiankai, the Permanent Observer of China to the Organization of American States (OAS), met with Secretary General of the OAS Luis Almagro in the Embassy. Present at the meeting were Director General of Department of Latin America and Caribbean of MFA Zhu Qingqiao, who came to Washington DC for the 7th China-US Sub-Dialogue on Latin American and Caribbean Issues, Principal Deputy Observer of China to OAS Liang Yu, Deputy Observer Yu Bo, Assistant Secretary General of OAS Nestor Mendes, Chair of the Permanent Council and General Committee Hugo Cayrus, Chief of Staff of SG Jacinth Henry-Martin, etc.. They exchanged views on the relationship between China and the OAS, implementation of a new round of China-OAS Cooperation Fund, human resources training cooperation and some international and regional issues of common interest.

 

Ambassador Cui said: the China-OAS relationship is developing well. As the former ambassador of Uruguay to China, Secretary General Almagro is an old friend of China. China attaches great importance to the OAS and would like to reiterate its support for the work of SG. We're confident that the organization will play a greater role in regional and international affairs under the leadership of SG.

 

SG Almagro said that he could still remember vividly his working experiences in China. The OAS highly appreciates China's support for the organization and is willing to further strengthen friendly cooperation with China under new circumstances, in order to play a more important role in maintaining regional peace and stability and promoting common development.
