On March 29, 2007, Minister and DCM Zheng Zeguang attended the Seminar on "China & Investments in Africa" at Bretton Woods Committee and delivered a speech. Mr. Jim Orr, Executive Director of Bretton Woods Committee, Mr. Harry Broadman, World Bank adviser on African economy, and members of the Committee were present.

Minister Zheng called Africa an important force in the international community.  There could be no peace and prosperity in the world without stability and development in Africa. China pursues the independent foreign policy of peace, an important content of which is strengthening the unity and cooperation with the African countries. At present, China and Africa have close political ties and frequent exchanges of high-level visits and people-to-people contacts; bilateral trade and economic cooperation have grown rapidly; cooperation in other fields has yielded good results; and consultation and coordination in international affairs have been intensified. The two sides are committed to establish and develop a new type of strategic partnership, a partnership that features political equality and mutual trust, win-win economic cooperation, cultural exchanges and mutual learning.

Zheng stated that China-Africa relationship is characterized by equality, mutual trust and mutual benefit. It is conducive to world peace and prosperity. China does not seek any privileges or exclusive interests in Africa. China's relationship with Africa is open and transparent. It does not target any third party or hurt other countries' interests in Africa.

Zheng stressed that both China and the United States are countries with significant influence in today's world. Both have close exchanges and cooperation with the African countries. There are many shared interests and concerns between China and the United States on African affairs. China is ready to strengthen consultation and enhance mutual trust and cooperation with the United States. China also stands ready to cooperate and coordinate closely with other countries and international institutions and join hands with them to make positive efforts for African stability and development.
