New flight route over Taiwan Strait is a peaceful channel: Mainland organization

SHANGHAI, March 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland aviation organization said that the new flight path over the Taiwan Strait would be a peaceful channel conducive for tourists and cross-Strait stability.

A Cross-Straits Aviation Transport Exchange Council official made the comment when meeting with delegates from the Taipei Airlines Association on Monday.

The M503 flight route, which can be used from March 5, was designed in cooperation with the United States and other countries, and approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization, the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office said previously.

The route was set within the Shanghai Flight Information Region instead of the Taipei region, and it maintains a safe distance from the Taipei region, according to the office.

The M503 route is designed to relieve the pressure of increased flights around Shanghai and the Pearl River Delta in south China, the office said.

The council said it hoped the Taiwan side could understood the need for such an important route and the gesture of good will sent by the mainland.
